Thank you to our term two art students who had worked so hard creating such beautiful artworks on their chosen threatened species.
Our student-created an individual artwork and also joined the whole class to create one group artwork.
Each year our students enter their artworks into the “Threatened species children’s art competition”. This competition was established in 2016 to help bring awareness to over 1000 threatened plants and animals in N.S.W alone, many of which are facing extinction if we don’t act quickly.
This year our students had created artworks on the following threatened species of N.S.W.
Corroboree Frog, Powerful Owl, Sunshine Wattle, Bellinger River Snapping Turtle, Swamp Orchid, Brolga Crane, Little Bent Wing Bat, Superb Fruit-Dove, Barrier Range Dragon, Grey Headed Flying Fox, Fur Seal, Grey Nurse shark, Weedy Sea Dragon.
The award presentation of the finalist artworks are held at Parlement House and are on exhibition from the 7th of September. National threatened species day. At the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, around the Children’s Fig Tree from the 8th to the 23rd of September 2019. After that, you’ll be able to see the winning artworks at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in North Sydney for two weeks. The video below is of some of the highlights from the award presentation of Art Box Workshops students receiving their prizes. We had eight student representatives of the 16 students from Art Box Workshops that were involved in creating the two group artworks. This year the competition had over 2000 children participating from 63 schools and 14 art school facilitators like Art Box Workshops from N.S.W, A.C.T and S.A.
If you missed seeing the exhibition at the Botanical Gardens Sydney, here is a quick video of when I went to see it at the weekend.
